Title: CAMRY, AURION AND COROLLA NOW EASIER TO PARK
Date: Mon, Aug 18th, 2008 20:20:01 pm

Toyota Australia has added more optional Toyota Genuine safety accessories to the range available on Camry, Aurion and Corolla - making these cars even safer to drive and easier to park.

Toyota Genuine ParkAssist clearance parking sensors are mounted left and right on the front bumper of the vehicle, with a similar set of four ParkAssist rear parking sensors mounted across the rear bumper.

The sensors can help make drivers more aware of obstacles out of their range of vision when parking and reversing.

Matthew Callachor, divisional manager of Toyota Australia's Customer Service Division, said Toyota's ParkAssist technology could help prevent small accidents.

"ParkAssist is designed to help increase driver awareness of what is around the vehicle when attempting to park and reverse," he said.

"The ParkAssist sensors scan outwards from the vehicle using ultrasonic technology. They detect obstacles in the vicinity of the front corners and rear of the vehicle, and alert drivers to them.

"These obstacles may include other cars, pillars, kerbs and children's toys such as tricycles.

"Of course, no accessory can replace safe driving techniques and the need to pay attention to the road and surrounds," he said.

The front and rear sensors help driver awareness by triggering an alert tone inside the vehicle when an obstacle is identified as being too close.

The rear parking sensors are designed to work in conjunction with the Toyota Genuine rear-view camera - another new accessory for Camry and Aurion - although they operate totally independently of the camera system.

The rear-view camera is discretely located under the lip of the rear tailgate. It projects the view from the rear of the vehicle onto an electro-chromatic rear-view mirror, or satellite navigation and audio unit screen, both of which are available as Toyota Genuine Accessories for Camry and Aurion.

"When drivers combine ParkAssist with the rear-view camera, they can see while looking forward a visualisation of what would usually be out of line-of-sight and behind them," said Mr Callachor.

"This can ease some of the stress associated with parking and reversing, as the technologies work in parallel to help drivers avoid hitting objects while they are concentrating on tricky manoeuvres."

The Toyota Genuine electro-chromatic mirror, when activated, features a 50mm x 38mm colour LCD screen with images provided by the rear-view camera.

When not in use, the LCD screen is invisible to the eye, and the entire area of the electro-chromatic mirror works as a regular mirror.

Note: All Toyota Genuine Accessories purchased and fitted to a Toyota are warranted for the remainder of the New Vehicle Warranty or 12 months, whichever is greater. Toyota Genuine Accessories purchased from an authorised Toyota Dealer over the counter are warranted from the date of purchase for one year (unlimited kilometres). Conditions apply. All warranties are additional to the implied warranties under the Trade Practices Act 1974.

ParkAssist is designed as a driver-assist device only and should not be used as a substitute for skilled driving and safe parking practices. The area into which the vehicle is to be reversed must be visually monitored by the driver while parking.
