Title: HILUX, COROLLA PUSH TOYOTA TO QUEENSLAND RECORD
Date: Fri, Jul 4th, 2008 20:20:01 pm
Toyota
has had a record-breaking six months in Queensland with unprecedented
sales including the state's two best-selling vehicles, HiLux and
Corolla. Official figures released yesterday show Queenslanders purchased 29,148
Toyota vehicles in the first half of the year - an industry record. Toyota's Northern Region manager Sean Hanley said the six-month tally
was the highest any company had achieved in the state and was more than
16,000 ahead of the nearest rival. He said Toyota's sales were up 3.7 per cent compared with the same
period last year in an overall industry that had shown no growth. "Toyota is continuing to expand its presence in Queensland, lifting
sales and market share in a static market," Mr Hanley said. "This demonstrates the strength of the Toyota brand, the diverse range
of vehicles and the support of a first-rate dealer network," he said. Mr Hanley said the Queensland results enabled Toyota to set national
industry sales records for June, for the first half of the year and for
the financial year. HiLux was Queensland's best-selling vehicle in the six months to 30
June with 6,455 sales, including an industry-leading 1,412 in June. Its main competition in the sales race came from Corolla with 4,915
sales for the first half, which was boosted by 1,289 sales last month. Nationally, Corolla was the best-selling vehicle for the first half of
the year - the first time a Toyota has achieved this feat. In Queensland, HiLux and Corolla together account for close to 10 per cent of all new-vehicle sales. Camry, Yaris, Prado and Aurion also topped 2,000 sales in Queensland for the six months. Industry statistician VFacts said total new-vehicle sales in Queensland were 118,235 for the January to June 2008 period. This was down 0.7 per cent on the 119,102 vehicles sold in the same six months of 2007.
