Toyota Australia plans to ramp up its large-car sales with the launch of a special-edition version of the award-winning V6 Aurion.

Available for a limited time, the Aurion Touring offers customers over $2,500 of added equipment at no extra cost compared with the entry-level Aurion AT-X sedan.

Aurion Touring is fitted with stylish 16-inch alloy wheels and a rear wing spoiler, which together normally retail for $1,150.

The special-edition model also gains a six-disc CD changer, front foglamps, dual-zone climate-control for the air-conditioning, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever, front and rear parking sonars and a trip computer.

The recommended retail price is $34,990*.

Aurion leads its class by delivering more power and using less fuel than any other normally aspirated Australian-made six-cylinder car.

The 3.5-litre Quad-Cam V6 develops 200kW of power at 6200rpm and 336Nm of torque at 4700rpm on regular unleaded petrol.

It uses just 9.9 litres of regular unleaded fuel for every 100km, based on the ADR 81/01 combined test.

Power output rises to 204kW with premium unleaded fuel.

All Aurion models, including the Touring special edition, are fitted with six airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-skid brakes and an adaptive six-speed automatic sequential-style gearbox.

Other standard features include power driver's seat, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, remote central locking, dual exhaust outlets and security alarm.

Last year, Australians bought 22,036 Aurions, which accounted for 16.5 per cent of sales in the large-car market (<$70K).

To the end of February this year, Aurion's share has risen to 19.0 per cent.

Aurion AT-X was named the best car in its class for each of the past two years by experts at Australia's motoring clubs and Fairfax Drive.
